People are probably skeptical about aspirin because for most, over the counter stuff is useless. I had headaches very similar to what you are describing in high school--caffeine or aspirin always worked on them. By college it had become much more intense and I'm classic cluster now.
The suggestion to go to a neurologist is very important--you have many of the signs of cluster, but some rare brain disease manifest cluster-like symptoms. You neuro should do a complete work up to eliminate it being something in the brain itself.
On the rebound issue--you probably already know this but excedrin is much more prone to create rebound headaches than straight tylenol or aspirin alone. If aspirin alone works then just use that. But aspirin can cause rebound as well.
