I think most of the US research in CH is done by corporations and given that ~0.01% of the population suffers from CH there isn't a big financial incentive to fund CH research. Most of the drugs we take to control CH were developed for migraine. One avenue to pursue is having NIH put out a RFA (request for application) for research into CH. This is by no means an easy task. Competition for funding is very tight and new areas of research are very hard to get funding for. I think the best approach would be to convince the RFA board that research into Ch would yield a host of information in other areas of neurology, not just headaches. Another approach would be to lobby congress to push for funding but again the total numbers of CHers are low compared to the total population.
