The primary usage of Verapamil, as Jim R said, is for all sorts of heart diseases.
But for us clusterheads it is the preventative of first choice, and I believe everybody should give it a thorough try before going to harder stuff.
Recently I wrote a post (see link) that explains what Verapamil does for us, together with some quotes to push down the throat of docs who won't allow a high enough dose.
