I have worked as an OR nurse for a long time and have done years of Neurosurgery. The surgery you are talking about involves bisecting (laser, chemical, electrical lysis) of one of two different nerves in the face. The surgery is rarely completely successful and there is a high possibility of side effects (ranging from increased pain to "ghost" pain to facial paralysis).
I am not aware of any of the neurosurgeons I know who do the surgery anymore - nor would they recommend it. I would definitely get several opinions before considering the operation.
