Darlene,

I am pleased that you had success in the treatment of your CH using Propranolol (Inderal). It is indeed a type of Beta Blocker medication - and there are various other types of Beta Blockers that are used for CH as well. However it is not typically used in the treatment of acute types of headaches.

Also, there are many other types of abortive 'triptan' medicines on the market other than Sumatriptan (Imitrex). Use the buttons on the left of your screen, and look under Medications. Examples of other abortives are: Naratriptan (Amerge), Rizatriptan (Maxalt), and Zolmitriptan (Zomig). Depending on the triptan type, there are different doses available, as well as ingestion types (pill, wafer, nasal and injection).

And yet there are various other non-triptan abortives - my personal favorite is Oxygen :-).

What preventative meds is your friend taking?

And lastly, how many years have your CH been in remission?

Alan
