I went 3 years with the Clusters without seeing a neuro. In fact I just found out last week that I have cluster headaches. You name the over the counter med...I tried it...and let me tell you they all worked the same...in fact...they didn't work. I was taking them ignorantly thinking that they were working. My cluster headaches last on a average of 30mins - 1 1/2 hours....you should have saw me...I had the bc powder, IBprofen, Advil et all.
I was scared to go to the doctor for my headaches cause I seriously thought I had a tumor or something (In fact this is the first time I have been to the doctor since my dad may me go back in HS). So they did the usual; ran the blood test ect...and found that I seriously elavated my liver from taking so much ibprofen...and sent me to a neuro for the headaches...it was then that I was diagnosed with Clusters.
Stay away from over the couter meds if you have clusters...they do not work. I took them because it was a routine and I was ignorant not knowing that my headache lasted only the period of time it did. When I went to the doctor (before the neuro she made me prove to myself that the over the counter stuff does not work...she said next time I get a headache...don't take anything...well what do you know...it was still the same length ect.).
And by the way...Imetrex for me has been a lifesaver. I have been taking this since thursday and man it rocks....
