many severe throbbing type headaches at the back of the head (particularly those at the base of the skull, where your neck connects) are caused by high blood pressure. Especially if recreational drugs like extasy and meth are a factor; or over-the-counter meds containing PPA. Some people also have this type of headache during or after sex (I am being serious here). Best bet is to check with your doctor and try to rule out anything more serious than CH.
