My doc has put me on 240mg verap SR once a day and epilim (valproic acid) 200mg 3 times a day. This combination seems to do the trick and it didn't take a week to kick in, only 1 day.
As you know at that stage I had 4 - 6 CH attacks per day and this combination worked fast.
I'm no medical professional, I'm only saying this worked for me and maybe you should try the combination because I hate to know that you're in pain.
