it's time to find a new doctor. Clusters and migraines are different. You can have both, but they are different types of headaches. Light and sound sensitivity are more commonly (although not 100% exclusively) migraine traits, as are duration of pain. Clusters do provide the sufferer with pain free time between bouts. Migraines usually last longer than 8 hours and can go as long as 72 hours in one attack. Could it be that you are having migraines with CPH? CPH has short duration like the spikes you are referring to. I'd sure get a second opinion from a neuro who knows about different types of headaches, if I were you.
