O2 comes in two flavors... medical and welding. They are both 99.999% pure O2 (they usually come from the same tank), but medical O2 is tested and certified as medical grade, and the supplier's liability insurance is much higher for it. You do need a prescription.
You do not need a prescription for welding O2.
