a half a can of beer would trigger a headache. At that point I'd have to stop the drinking. It was just to hard not to spill the beer while holding an ice pack on my head, while banging the wall and screaming.
To answer your question, for me to continue to drink made the pain worse. A couple of times I tried to out-drink the pain but the only thing that happened was I'd finally pass out and an hour later I'd be awake with shaking hands, wanting to puke and a Kip 9.
Don't try to out-drink a cluster headache.....it won't work.
