Hi Jeff - Has your doctor tried you on any of the triptans (imitrex, maxalt, etc.)? They generally work within 5-20 minutes, and are available in injection, nasal spray and sublingual tablets as well as the slower acting pills. They aren't a cure-all, and the pain is still intense (at least for me so I still use a pain killer with them), but they knock out the worst of the headache quickly; it beats the hours-long duration of an untreated headache.
