Have you ever tried to communicate with someone but were hampered by some problem - perhaps hearing, or a different language? I came across that this week. My friend and I were trying to help a young, Vietnamese woman who is starting a business and wants to advertise, but her abilities to communicate are limited. I found out if I was quiet and patient, I could understand what she was saying. It is so hard sometimes to know what to do or say, and yet, if we are quiet and patient the words will be there.
I was thinking how few words it takes sometimes. Jonny says volumes to me when he puts a picture up. Charlie's "mean, old Charlie" speaks out. Den's "Good Grief" or my favorite, "Gooten Griefen" and Nancy's "Smiles" mean a lot to us all.
Just to wrap it up we were able to help the woman this week. She has advertising out now and I was even able to hear one customer say that she came in because of it! To me, that is exciting! Words, smiles, pictures, a hand on the back (or a kick in the pants) mean a lot to people. Don't be afraid to communicate the best way you know how.
