that happened to my husband too, within an hour of taking Verapamil he would go into attack and his heart would beat wildly. The heart racing has, however, happened before when he was unmedicated.
He's now switched to the Verapamil SR (timed release) version and no problems at all with that.
Maybe if you go back to needing something, you may want to ask your doc for this other Verapamil?
