I used to be able to do that, if we're talking about the same thing. I'd meditate on the pain and focus on the sensations without judgement. I'd, for instance, focus on where the exact placement of the sensations/pain would be in my eye and break it down to a burning, pressure, etc... feeling and ask myself why these sensations are bad and why I give it a negative connotation when they are just sensations. Just basically exploring and examining it without judging it. that would all stem from starting out asking myself what is pain? I mean, while the sensations are very concrete, the idea of pain is quite abstract. So, while the pain would rarely leave, it would be just something that is. Neither good nor bad. Those were the days I was deeply into meditation though.
