my husband did a 17 day burst, starting at 70mg for 4 days, then decreasing by 5mg a day. He WAS extraordinarily hungry during that time, but if he gained any weight it just replaced what he had lost to that point in his cluster cycle. He's off it now and his weight is normal, as is his appetite. It DID break his cycle, but he is still on the Verapamil as a preventative.
In answer to your question, you don't really have to DO anything to get rid of the pred side effects, other than to just slowly get off the pred.
