not end the cycle, it just damps the attacks, and with some luck (and a high enough dose) it suppresses them completely. The length of the cycle is not affected, so when you feel it is over you can taper down, slowly to be sure it's over for good.
But it does not hurt to stay on Verapamil during remission, at a reduced level if you like. This has the advantage that at the start of the next cycle you don't have the delay until it kicks in.
