I don't take Imitrex because of the angina it causes but the way Pills are manufactured is for a direct purpose, the coating allows the medication to make it through your stomach and past the "Acid Bath" so that it can give the maximum benefit, and some medictions, like the Oxy contin, well you cn kil yourself by removing the time released affect the manufacturer put's great effort into applying in just the proper proportions to work just right, If I cut an 80mg oxy contin in half and took it I would get really stoned but then the next 11 hours I would not have the benefit of the medication that was supposed to last 12 hrs.
At least check with the manufacturer or your local Pharmisist for the OK to cut them up, you just might be killing a goodf portion of the affective medication by releacing it into your stomach! (JMHO) Pappy
