There was an early Robert DeNiro / Martin Scorsese collaboration called Mean Streets which you may be familiar with cause it seems you are an artsy fartsy type :-)
In this fine movie there is a scene where Bobby DeNiro takes great offense when someone calls him a Mook. He is outraged. Real angry. He then says "What's a Mook ?"
