Because bat's don't usually wear anything. That's probably why they smile a lot. :)
Anyway, I myself try not to hit my head on things. I think those guys back when I boxed did enough of that to last me for a lifetime. (Oh, everyone says, that's what's wrong with him. I knew it was sometyhing!)
I personally try to rock or pace or just hold onto something tightly. if it is real bad, I may lie on the floor and kind of roll around in a ball of pain, kicking my heels on the floor seems to help. I sometimes hit the floor or wall with my hand to try and distract myself also. My hands really hurting though so probably not too good an idea.
