I really should have defined the term, “guy.” I don’t mean “macho:” I’m so tough that I don’t need anybody else’s help. What I mean by “guy” is too stupid to be able to accept anybody else’s help, at least when I’m in the middle of a cluster attack. I spent 1956 through 1983 trying to find out just what the hell these cluster attacks were. It took me from 1983 to 1999 to find something that was helpful - Verapamil, in my case. During all those years, I tried everything that doctors recommended and everything that I heard about from other sources. It wasn’t till I found this site that I discovered Verapamil.
But the point I’m trying to make is that asinine suggestions from people who don’t have any idea what a cluster is like tend to piss you off, like you’re too stupid already not to have tried to do anything, ANYTHING, at all to stop this horible pain, regardless of the fact that the people making the suggestions are doing it out of love and a desire to be as helpful as possible. However, this is not to say that I don’t greatly, greatly appreciate having my wife go with me to the ER and to back me up when I’m trying to explain to some jerk doctor that being in the ER at three o’clock in the morning is a big a pain in the ass for me as it is for him. And when the pain isn’t bad enough to send us to the ER, just knowing that she’s in the next room is enough to help me get through it.
