You can probably spare yourself a lot of headaches, if you watch out for MSG. Chinese and junk food restaurants are notorious for their liberal use of MSG, but many other use it as well. Most processed meet (sausages, spam, etc.) has MSG added. To sauces and soups they add far to much salt so they can add more MSG. In fact, most preprocessed food has MSG added, and in some 'advanced' countries it it sprayed on crops.
Here in Europe we are lucky insofar, that it must be declared on the package label (as E621 to E626); so I go shopping only armed with a loupe to read the small print.
But there is also naturally occurring MSG: in ripe hard cheese and in cooked tomatoes (beware of ketchup!). I don't know about foods prepared with soy beans, but soy is used as the basic stuff to manufacture this poison.
