I think the surgery you may be referring to might be gamma knife of radiofrequeccy of trigeminal gaglion. I've often thought of this as it seems logical but what I did was this approach. My doc said I had sephnopalantine ganglion neuralgia (another word, I think, cluster) so he injected Hydeltra (pregnelone[prednisone's mother]) into my nose- the nasal turbinates as it were. He gave me, I believe, 2cc of hydeltra into each side three times. Then for the next 2.5 months I had virtually no pain and could also drink alcohol with impunity. The steroid wore off and pain returned. The doc said he could keep this up for a while as the hydeltra was bound and would minimally leak into blood stream, but another doc said I could go temporarily blind by having this done. I think he may have been trying to scare me into having his perfered method. Bottom line-it worked- but how safe? Anybody else had this done or heard of it and side effects. I would like to have it done again but am a bit scared. Also, its moderate to high in price range.
