Regarding surgical options, both procedures I am aware of deaden nerves associated with transmission of pain in the area if the trigeminal nerve. However, I believe the surgeon "deadens" trigeminal nerve fibers associated with pain transmission while sparing others. The technique, trigeminal rhizotomy utilizes either high-frequency radiowaves or gamma radiation (gamma knife). I beleive either is expensive and my need to be repeated. However, I think the gamma-knife is "cutting edge" and as much as $25K.
