My doctor retired too and I was wondering how a new doctor would handle me. As it turned out, a friend of my son's who grew up together became a doctor and moved back here. He knew I had clusters when he was growing up. When I went to him, his response was, Look, you know more about clusters than I do. Let me know what you want and get got his prescription pad out and wrote down what I needed. When I went to the durable medical center to get my 02, they knew all about clusters and we had a good conversation. He told me that if I ever ran out after hours to call him and he would bring a tank out to the house. So at least those in the business are getting better educated than they were 30 years ago too.
One other note, there are times that I am awaken every two hours with a cluster and after awhile I really start dragging. One thing that worked for me was a med called Prosom. It is just a sleeping pill that works for around 6 hours. I use them sometime when I am not having clusters just to help me fall asleep when I had a lot on my mind. The good thing about Prosom is that you don't feel draggy the next day. But during the cluster I have found that I can sleep thru most of the night. The downside to that is sometimes when one does pop thru it is a bad one because it took so long to break thru my sleep.
