Pat,
Five years ago I had a bad run for eight months. Was doing 6 a day and just couldn't work. So I submitted a claim on my Disability Income policy.

Not easy, you need your Doctor to verify when the disability started and the fact that the CH totally disables you. Also, it depends on the type od DI policy you have. There are many forms of DI that go to the type of benefits you have. You probably need some assistance from your agent to help with this process.

My Doc understands the problems with CH and submitted the necessary statement. They denied me, initially, based on the fact that I had not seen her for a year prior to starting the CH cycle. They were stating that I was not "under a Doctor's care". I told them that with CH there was no need to have a physical appointment once the condition is diagnosed. I was using Caforgot and had used that forever, so all I did was phone for the prescription to be filled.

I read the policy and basically they had to pay because the Doctor stated I was under her care and the disability was valid. I got my money.

From reading the posts on this board, I find my situation a bit different. My Doctor works with me and listens rather than assuming she knows it all and I know nothing. She also knows I am not wild about medication, so just gives me the refills I need without an appointment. I only see her when we need to try a new med and so we have a face to face to discuss the medication.

You have a real fight on your hands getting DI benefits. There is a lot of fraud associated with DI and the companies know it. IF your Doctor doesn't believe in you, he will not sign off on the disability. And that is fair, it is his butt on the line. Don't lose your cool when dealing with this, present your case clearly and with facts.

Many people have made this recommdation: PRINT out the information from this site and take it to your doctor and agent. YOU need to educate people about this to get the help you need.

Good Luck!!! If you need any info or help, email me.
