Hi Marilyn,
I, too, am the wife of a sufferer. I've heard my husband ask me for a knife so he could end his suffering once and for all. We have had very little support from doctors and hubby is sick of being a lab rat for them. The biggest success we have found, besides the moral support to be found here on the message board, has come from the following three things.....
1. Water Treatment (read further down for lc bob's description of Dr. Jerry's treatment - it stopped, yes STOPPED my husband's cycle WITHIN TWO DAYS)
2. Inhaling pure Oxygen. We couldn't get a prescription but we happen to have welder's oxygen and, after much discussion with Poison Control and other experts, we have learned how to administer this safely. MAKE SURE IF YOU TRY THIS WAY YOU BECOME EDUCATED ON SAFETY PROCEDURES - feel free to email me anytime.
3. Gravol/Dramamine before bed. This inhibits the REM phase of sleep and for some reason the CH doesn't hit in the middle of the night. Will offer him a bit of much need sleep if nothing else.

Again, please know that you can e-mail me direct if you need a shoulder. I know what you are going through.
Cheers,
Margi
p.s. we also use the gel-filled ice packs at first sight of onset.....i keep 3 of them in the freezer at all times and he just lays one on the back of his neck when he feels one coming on. Seems to cool down the blood and thus lowers the pressure.
