The sad part about how much snow there is, is that there is going to be at least double what's there now before March finishes, if not triple. 2 years ago the banks were so high I couldn't see my van from my living room window. Egads. Now you know why the convention has to be in the summer LOL Cat

I lived in Overland Park, KS for 2 years. And while the people there are the greatest, the weather just plain sucks! After months at a time of not seeing the sun, I had to get the hell out! But don't get me wrong...I do miss the cost of living!!

Ah... yes.. the cost of living ... was wonderful.. and the people WERE great.. Ramon said it was too "visually UN-stimulating" (being an artist).. and after 37 straight days of tornado warnings.. (NOT watches)... and NO basement in the neighborhood.. scared to death of all that violent weather.. had to GO... HAD to get outa there.. and we did.. How can you live in tornado alley and have whole blocks that dont have storm cellars or basements?? That just doesn't seem right to me!! LOL.. NO one had a basement! I was sittin in my tub for weeks, man.. i was DONE! a nervous wreck, i tell ya! Ok.. im done .. LOL tina

Okay....since everyone's talking about the weather----- Those of us who live right smack in the middle of tornado alley, we're having us a somewhat screwed up weather pattern. Sunday morning, two inches of beautifully, falling snow. No wind, flakes were just huge and falling real slow. It was gorgeous. Course, here in Texas, any snow is pretty. The next 2 days....65 degrees. Now it's Wed. night, the winds blowing 42 mph, which is putting our chill factor about 20 degrees, and they can't decide if it's going to snow again or not. But Sunday, back to the 60's. It is never boring in this state!!!

What's bad Mark, is that my 02 is out on the porch. Nothing like hitting that windy chill factor at 4am, the mask is really, really cold. Don't notice the cold much till the pains gone.....but damn, you still got those five or so more minutes....those are the killers. Like your snow picture too....someday I'll figure out how to do those!!

15 degrees F here in Jamestown, NY. Since we aren't all that far from Buffalo, snow is pretty much a hobby. Some people really supplement their income here shoveling, plowing, and just dealing with the stuff. Actually, it's been an easy winter so far. We have about 10-15 inches of snow, depending on where you live. It takes a lot more to get on my nerves. One thing we really enjoy though is watching all you people south of the Mason-Dixon Line, drive in snow. It's often a part of Buffalo broadcast news this time of year. Hey, when ya live here in January, you gotta have sumpin. Frigid old Charlie

One thing that surprises me is that people who insist on using this cumbersome Fahrenheit scale are talking about negative temperatures ??? That just cannot be true. Old Mr. Fahrenheit carried his (at his time) newfangled thermometer all over the world. One day in Finnland it was so terribly cold that he was convinced that it couldn't get any colder. Therefore, he defined that as the origin of his scale. From this it follows without doubt: There are no negative values on the Fahrenheit scale. q.e.d. Ueli

Cool - I finally get to argue with Ueli!! We used the Imperial system in Canada until I was in high school - that's when we switched to metric. It does, indeed, go into the negative scale, Mr. Ueli! At -40°F, it is very close to the same temperature as -40°C. I remember many a winter here as a little girl where we would be -40 for weeks on end and I can guaran-dang-tee you it was a very negative experience. 0°C is 32°F, the time when ice freezes - I think maybe it may have been Mr. Celcius who decided that THAT should be the baseline point. ha HA Mr. Smarty Pants!!!

I recently learned that the metric system is not 100% accurate. It's "off" by an infinetesimal bit. Seems that one of the Frenchmen who are responsible for it, made a itty bitty error. He was so upset about it that he spent most of his life not telling anyone. This isn't a problem in everyday life, but for the laboratory and other scientific pursuits, that's another matter. Still, Fahrenheit is bizarre by comparison. Fill in the blanks Ueli...... Charlie
