Have you ever gotten song lyrics wrong?
Sometimes for years...

I'll start:

Steve Miller Band's Big Old Jet Airliner:
I thought...We're gonna tear this light up

The Police's
Every Breath You Take (the line, How my poor heart aches):
I thought...I'm a pool hall ace.

Come on, give it up. I know I'm not the only dork here.  Grin

Pink Floyd 'Wish you were here'

The line went  'did you exchange, the walk on part of the war for a lead role in a cage'

Being a teenager who spent alot of time with the ganga, I thought it went 'did you exchange, the broken part of the wall for a leaf rolled in a cage.'

It was deep man, deep.  Wink

I remember hearing it said by someone, somewhere about Jimi Hendrix being gay and all.  Like what's with that "Purple Haze" line:

"S'CUSE ME, WHILE I KISS THIS GUY"

The Monkees' "Last Train to Clarksville" was written because the writer thought that is what he heard on a new Beatle release, 'course I forget the song now.  When he found out those weren't the words, he released the similar sounding, Clarksville song.

For the first time after all these years, in the movie " The Wizard of Oz",  the guards had that chant going at the castle as they formed a line and the three bungling friends of Dorothy joined them to get into the castle dressed as guards.

I always just used to sing, "OH WE OH, OOH WE OH"

Apparently, the guards weren't that fond of the witch but very afraid of her.  What they were actually singing was:

"OH WE LOATHE, THE OLD ONE"

OMG! Being a musician I had to respond to this thread.
I grew up on Sabbath, Kiss, Rush, etc. Quickly graduated into the hardcore punk/ Death metal, and what blew everyone away was, I could understand most of it (mostly.) With that being said...

The only song I can ever remember fucking with me (besides half of System of A Down's stuff)

The classic version of Manfred Manns Earth Band "Blinded By The Light." I always thought growing up that the line directly after that in the chorus was...

"Blinded by the light... Wrapped up like a douche, you know the runner in the night" Grin

The actual lyric is...

"Blinded by the night... Cut loose like a deuce another runner in the night"

Funny, my mom always thought that Ozzy Osbournes "Crazy Train" said

"I'm going up the river with crazy fred."

The actual lyric is...

"I'm going off the rails on a crazy train."

However, one note on something I considered, for its day and time, very lyrically cool and sly was The Baby's -  Midnight Rendevous. My friends thought I was crazy, but at the very end you can hear John Waite say during the fade out "Oh girl I really wanna fuck you."  Finally I recorded it off of K-She 95 and played it for everybody. Grin

Rock on,
Carl D
