New to board old battle with pain

Greetings~

I have read parts of your board for a while but unfortunately didn't take the time to join. My apologies.

You have a really nice site here. To tell a little about myself....

I first had a series of CH attacks about 22 years ago. We didn't have imitrex then and relied on things such as Demerol, ergotamine, and whatever the doc thought, etc.

Of course it did very little or at best if I took enough it knocked me out. Awakening in a pain, feeling like half my head/face was going to explode and eye bulging, after a night of trying to avoid it with pain meds was an often event.

Imitrex when it hit the market offered decent relief. No narcotics and it actually aborted some episodes completely. Then I started to get a racy heart on that stuff so it had to be stopped...

Now, to catch up to date, a clean diet, prn pain meds, occasional psilocybin/copelandia tx's and I find I am having less episodes. This has been a breakthrough for me and also the reason for me posting. I am still having some severe episodes and I still even daily symptoms (I also have other health issues) but things are definitely improved.

The new treatments and the mushrooms have given the best relief I have ever had of decades of pain.

I am half asleep, a bit of insomnia, if this post trails off that is why  . I'll have to try and remember I posted this!

Joshua

P.S. Note that I am a psychologist by training before anyone thinks I am nuts for taking "psychedelic mushrooms". A person is almost willing to do anything to avoid this pain...

Greetings to you too Joshua!

22 years is a long time to suffer with the beastie.
Thank God at least some of the treatments have improved now.

Just curious on two things:

What is a Copelandia tx?

and
your thoughts if you have the time:
as a psychologist, what do you make of the theory that a hypothalamic abnormality might create a group of people who are behaviourally unusual as well?
There is a theory floating around that the reason a massively disproportionate number of CH sufferers are heavy smokers and also some of us drink quite a bit too is that our wonky hypothalamus may make us less in control of habits and behaviours than the average person.
I'm just musing here, but I don't know whether any psychologists have ever got involved in CH research e.g. via accredited psychological profiling (such as MBTI) to see if there are any patterns developing amongst sufferers.

Welcome to the board Joshua

Nobody here thinks you are nuts for taking "psychedelic mushrooms". (Well, maybe Pubgirl is an exception. She just garnished a thread about mushrooms with over a dozen poison pen posts. And that's the reason she only asks nosy questions and doesn't mention your most successful treatment.)

The use of psilocybin/psilobin mushrooms to abort a current cycle, and even more, to prevent future ones, is discussed here frequently, especially on the medications board. The results are impressive, more than a hundred success stories are known.

To improve on this treatment I strongly recommend that you visit, and study at length, the ClusterBuster Site.

(BTW, I don't believe any diet, clean or otherwise, has an influence on clusters)

Good luck from outer space,
ASG

Greetings and thank you for the welcome!

I am happy to find this board and kind community.

To answer your interesting questions:

Copelandia is a type of musrhoom similar to the psilocybin mushroom. The difference is it also contains serotonin! Smiley

The copelandia mushroom also contains more of the active chemical of psilocin than most psilocybin strains therefore it can be taken at much lower doses. 250mg (1/4 a gram) is what I would consider a dose similar to one gram or more of the psilocybin mushrooms talked about on this board. I like the idea of taking less of anything and I do believe the additional serotonin is beneficial especially when trying to abort an impending episode. I was able to buy them legally, already in capsules, in Denmark in 1999. They have not been available commercially since then.

"Abnormal hypothalamic" activity could certainly give rise to unusual behaviors. I am unaware of connections to cluster headache however I find your questioning very interesting.  I am definitely not trained as a nuerologist or psychiatrist...but I do admire their understanding of such things.

And thanks spaceguy for the excellent link and also Basslady for the welcome Smiley. It will give me much inforamtion to pursure. VERY appreciated. It's nice to meet such kind folks as you.

I think I will do some reading Smiley

Thanks again,
Joshua

Alien Space Guy

That was an uncalled for and unnecessary attack.
If it makes you feel better I am actually very upset by it.
Are you happy now?

I try very hard as often as I can to help sufferers here and elsewhere privately and publicly, I don't deserve that kind of unpleasantness.

ASG that was uncalled for!

wendy's 'attacks' on the other thread was re the OUCH UK blast not the shrooming issue itself!

Wendy does alot of Good on this and the UK sites.
The Shrooms thread was an adult discussion over a MAJOR bit of mud slinging about and towards OUCH UKs stance on Shrooming threads It wasn't poison or personal.

I think the word SORRY is in order for that!!!!!

Joshua,
We don't have much data on the copelandia but that could be a reason you haven't completely knocked out the cycle with psilocybin.
If the serotonin is injested and is fighting for, and inhabiting some of the receptors....the dose is in essence, even smaller than you think and not completely effective.
People using imitrex and other triptans MUST be 5 days free of them before successful treatment.
Let me know if you have any questions after you read the site.

ASG,
Give it a break. We'll all be better served if we keep the passion in our arguments and personal attacks out. It just causes us to spend half our time defending ourselves and friends and keeps us from spending the time helping people find relief.

Actually, the most important part of this discussion was spurred by Wendy's question about what Copelandia's are. It got the answer that included the fact that they contain serotonin.

Hi Alien Space Guy
You are not a very positive human being are you? You have slandered Pubgirl because you want to gain some credibility on CH.COM [if you want credibility my advice would be to change this outer space theme-it makes you sound like a 5 year old please don't tell me you've got Buzz Lightyear posters in your bedroom] Pub girl has posted on this site 100's of times she's supported newcomers , asked pertinent questions and has been an asset to the site.If you are a decent human being [sorry I forgot your from a different solar system] you should say sorry-

Oy, oy, oy, there is this Filbert, who construes out of a typo the weakness of someone's character and accuses him of using wrong numbers throughout. He poses as the supreme authority on matters of the WWW and gives lengthy lectures on the difference between doctor and professor. In short, he tries to transmit the semblance of a know-it-all and an expert in good manners and political correctness.

And then....

.... he drops a clanger of such gargantuan size that his house must have been shaken in its foundations.   bag

Filbert, how can you get down so deep in the gutter as to insult an innocent lady, AlienSpaceBabe (who BTW hasn't posted for over a week)?

I think you need to choose a stronger word than 'anal' as your alias. If anybody needs to apologize, it is Filbert towards ASBabe.

You think "I want to gain some credibility on CH.COM"?  No need for that, I've got it long ago. For my 1200 posts here I've received far more positive reactions than negative ones. But I must admit, it took me 5 years, and Robert the....... will surpass my number by end of April, if he keeps his current rate.

IMNSHO, AlienSpaceBabe does as good a job in supporting as Pubgirl, but without the bad side effects. In my circles 100's "good's" cannot countervail one "bad". That digging up and rubbing in of a bad word - written in anger and later amended - is such a vile deed that I think Pubgirl needs yet another change in screen name, like the disappearance of "Hooter" after extensive slamming of "hopefull".

AlienSpaceGuy, who is not afraid of Filbert and followers.

BTW, I too didn't know what copelandia is, but with the help of Google I got a first hunch within 5 minutes, and I bookmarked 2 links for a closer examination.

Sorry Joshua, this isn't what your thread was about, please don't be put off, just ignore it, I would take this elsewhere, but I am being accused of things I haven't done.

Alien Space Guy

Why on earth have you got this witch hunt out for me?
This is unbelievable!. What did I ever do to you?

If you would care to check with Hopefull, she would say that she counts me as one of her supporters actually, if you knew the whole story instead of your own revisionist version, behind the scenes I helped her.

I was , and still am Hooter. I signed every Hooter post as Wendy in case people didn't know but most knew it is my nickname, and if you look, quite a few people here often address me as Hoots! (Cootie and Kim and Cathi and Opus for starters)
Jonny also always knew who Hooter was or he would have killed me publicly Grin,
The reason I'm pubgirl as a screen name (but still Wendy signed) and not Hooter any more is between me and Jonny

I may have been being thick but I didn't realise that I could register again and get back my old name of Wendy the Brit after I deleted it when I was upset, so I used the only name I could think of where people might recognise it AND I signed every single Hooter post Wendy and everyone knew who I was. There was no deception.

Perhaps you could explain why you are doing your best to discredit me?

I am not made of iron, and this HURTS!

Is it any surprise that people (and there are lots of others) leave and then return when there is bile and nastiness like this?

Wendy

ASG,

Is it really necessary to bring up this kind of SHIT for no good reason at all?  Do you derive some kind of perverse pleasure in trying to drag Wendy out into a fight?  Is there some reason you can't contain yourself to private communication if you have such an enormous problem with her (and anyone who tries to defend her?)

Shut your trap.  Wendy is loved here.  We've all made mistakes.  She (once) tried to come in under the radar precisely because of attacks like yours, and you can't just let it go?  What's the fuckin problem?  Drop it already.  Just drop it and pretend nothing happened.  All of us would appreciate it.  Well, many of us.  I'm particularly tired of seeing your attacks that seem petty and unjustified.  LAY OFF.  Have some manners.

This thread is in SERIOUS danger of running into Personal attack after personal attack.
There are real and positive questions and anwsers here on this thread

ASG you have been out and searched other sites out for your own understanding and research. Muddying this thread only SERVES to discredit YOU my Friend.
PUBGIRL i count as a friend, Filbert too.
The issues in between the two Threads are Seperate!!
Not linked PUBGIRL and FILBERT responed as I did to the ATTACKS on the OUCH UK site.
IF you must discredit PUBGIRL. do it on ANOTHER THREAD and GET yourself a REAL reason to do it.

FIRST LEARN TO USE YOUR HEAD BEFORE TRYING TO ATTACK PEOPLE OR OTHERWISE on threads. PUBGIRL carries alot of good on this site. Whatever her screen name was before!!!!
WITHIN the terms of discussion, argument and looking for a solution to CH FROM WHATEVER SOURCE is our Goal here ASG!!! not about resurrecting past wrongs of the other posters from a different thread.
give the personal war with WENDY/PUBGIRL/Whatever a rest or start a new post about it and see how far that goes.

FIGHTING THE CAUSE!!! ASG or the People who want the anwsers? your choice.
a tip - I would choose Fight the cause it's easier!!!! and you would KEEP the credibility you have!!

Greetings Mr.Floyd, Smiley

How can  you tell if you are pink if you are on the dark side of the moon? Just a silly quandry to throw out
to attempt to thwart the animosity within this thread.

The reason why copelandia isn't working now is because I ran out! As I was saying it is no longer legally available as it once was in Denmark. I used to be able to go to what they call a "smart shop" and procure 250mg capsules. Those that want to "trip" only take two(500mg) in comparison to psilocybin users which take 1-3 grams or more.

I believe the additional serotonin in copelandia mushroom is actually superior to aborting an impending episode than regular cubensis. I tried them both. Remember serotonin also inhibits pain. Historically psilocybin was often mixed with a serotonin containing substance, chocolate. One has to wonder if those healers of long ago new something...

Serotonin won't compete with psilocin, it will enhance it, the reason for needing less of a dose. One small capsule would do me fine for 6 months..

I do hear that fresh copelandia is available by mail in the EU, I have yet to try it however.

Hope that helps.

To be honest ASGuy , I made the same assumption when first reading through Flash's thread. As I had never seen you on the MB before. And being as intelligent as you appear to be, you should have known that this simple mistake would happen, as your screen name is so similar to hers. Critisizing Filbert was really un-needed. Nor was there a need to attack Wendy on this thread that had absolutly nothing to do with the shroom thread.

But please do enlighten us as to what your other screen name was that has 1200 posts in 5 years, as I am fairly new to the CH.com family and I would like to know who it is that I am speaking to.

Now back to what this thread really was about.

Welcome to Clusterville, Joshua.

Truely wonderful to have you come to our site, but sorry that you had to.  I would love to hear some of your takes on the theories that people have on CH being triggered by behavior.  I no longer work in the field, but there are times that I miss counseling terribly.

As for AlienSpaceGuy, I too am curious about the 1200 post remark.  If that's the case, shouldn't we know who you were originally?  And us not knowing is different than Wendy posting under a new ID somehow?  Huh?

Psilocybin and serotonin both will attach themselves to several different sub-groups of receptors. Some of which overlap. Which sub-groups, and which neural pathways they effect that are responsible for the "lasting" relief, is up to debate, but hopefully we're getting close to some answers.
Imitrex certainly will block some of the subgroups that are needed for the psilocybin to positvely effect the cycle.
I understood your first post to read that you were getting brief but positive results from the copelandia's.
I wasn't aware that you were getting 6 months relief. That is outstanding and does coincide with the results of many people.
I will look more closely at this subject. Thanks very much for the input.
