Poor #13. Reckon it just wasn't his day. Great the other 12 black lungers made it.

That is just wonderful news---all the media took yesterday to tell the world that it was almost impossible for the miners to be alive. Prayer really does work, cause this is a miracle !

Prayers's are OK and all, but I'd rather the crews working aorund the clock to save these men got double over time as well as hazard pay.

Only one survived, 12 found dead according to recent reports.

PFDAN.................................... Drk^Angel

P.S.  The one survivor is in the hospital in critical condition.  Mine officials are blaming miscommunication for the confusion.  Ya would've thought that someone could've been a little more careful with their communication considering the circumstances.

You are so right!! How in the Hell can someone miscommunicate FACT. It makes you wonder if the Television media had anything to do with this in their race to be the first with " breaking news."

The CEO of the mining company supposedly received the miscommunication that 12 survived and according to some of the family he then told them of the survivors.  Then approx 3 HOURS went by before he came back to that baptist church and corrected his error.  Why did it take so long?!?! Oh those poor, poor families.

No amount of prayers were going to save those guys.

Corporate responsibilty, adherance to OSHA regs, safety inspections.

Thats what could have saved them.

He always answers prayers Melissa, just not always with a yes. Keep the families in your prayers, that's who needs it now.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Jan. 3) - A coal mine where 13 miners were trapped after an explosion Monday was cited 208 times for alleged safety violations in 2005, up from just 68 citations the year before.

Federal regulators' allegations against the Sago Mine included failure to dilute coal dust, which can lead to explosions, and failure to properly operate and maintain machinery, according to the U.S. Labor Department.

Ninety-six of the citations were considered "significant and substantial" by inspectors.

"We think that we were operating a safe mine. We have no real clue about what triggered this explosion or whatever happened today," said ICG Senior Vice President Gene Kitts

I just learned, from reading this post, about the 12 deaths...I feel like shit now.  How could they screw up so badly in their announcments?  I can't imagine how those 12 families must have felt after first hearing that their loved ones were alive, only to find out later.........

All I know is it was not done to hurt anyone nor was it done for and sinister reason. I will almost guarantee the person/persons that miss spoke feel awful for the mistake. What everyone there needs now is a nations support and prayers. And the lone surviver(sp) needs alot of prayers for his recovery. God Bless the Lost for they have returned to the Father. Like all who have died around the world we should pray for thier families and that they have gone to a better place, May the souls of the lost find peace and the families know it is so.

Sorry for the sermon but I felt the need to say it.

There are usually one of 3 answers to prayer. Yes, no, or wait. Prayer is simply talking or communicating with God not your wish list for the genie in the bottle. Yes those men have went home.

Funny how everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants do do what it takes to get there.

Good point, Ricky. I don't want to change the nature of this thread, but I'll say this:
Being raised a Catholic, I used to think that if I just prayed hard enough and tried to be a good person, nothing bad would ever happen to me or mine.
My epiphany came when I finally realized that faith isn't about nothing bad ever happening, but real faith is knowing that no matter what happens, I'll be OK.

I also don't believe in heaven (or hell) per se...
I just try to live right, following the Golden Rule. It's all about the compassion and love.

Pray for the one who is hanging on to life by a thread if you are so inclined, but don't pretend that a pro-corporate government and union busting isn't killing people.

The perfect crime, Ladies and Gentlemen, isn’t getting away with something after you’re caught ... The perfect crime is the one nobody knows was committed. ... like the current goverment's refusal to cut down on mercury emissions because their coal mining contributors won't allow it.  A few thousand deaths spread over millions of people, a few hundred thousand children with impaired development - no one sees a smoking gun, no one gets upset and gets off their duff to do anything.

The manslaughter of the WV miners is an outrage, but is a drop in the bucket compared to other preventable problems from coal ... I guess its like they say, 10 deaths are a tragedy but 10,000 deaths are a statistic.

All the religious and political crap aside...

Assuming that the 13th man lives, and I really hope he does, he will likely suffer from serious survivors guilt.  He worked with the dead men every day and watched them die thinking he was going to die with them.  He will be at a very high risk for committing suicide.  My heart goes out to him and his family as much for what they are about to go through as for what has already happened.
