Tired of this

Hey all, have had migraines about 3-4 times per week when i was 14-16 years old, but after that my head aches changed into wat i call "attacks" that completely stop me from doing anything. I get such intense throbbing in the back of my head that it makes me thrash and scream. I get them quite suddenly but notice them start as a dull ache about 2 inches behind my ears on both sides. I get extremely dizzy, sick to stomach, and drowsy. these headaches last up to four hours, but happen almost on a daily basis now. I have in the past tried almost every pharmacutical option they have with little or no help. The only drug i have taken for these headaches for about 2 years is Marijuana. It worked extremely well for the first year and a half making the Attacks somewat more Tolerable. But now the Marijuana is doing little if nothing. I have seen a specialist about this problem and in a few days i see him again. I am extremely nervous about this appointment because Doctor's scare the Hell out of me. And i have a feeling that these headaches might be the cause of a much bigger problem.Such as a tumour or some other problem requiring surgery. I am just getting a little tired of this because not only is it effecting my life but it is also effecting my Girlfriend and my Family. Im soon to be 21 years old and i have let this burden me far too long, but the thought of surgery or being dependent of drugs for this problem freaks me out(past problems with addiction Embarassed ). I dont really know wat to do and overall just need a little support. Thanks alot for reading

Hey Marcus,

I'm not a doctor but what you have don't sound like CHs.First of all POT will probably make a CH worse and possibly trigger one (from past experience when I was a teen)I started to notice when I was about 18 or so I am now 42.

See a neurologist who is familiar with headaches.Get your proper diagnoses first then go from there.

But before you  go do allot of reading from this site go to your doctor with an arsenal of information. Most doctors could learn from this site.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Hi Marcus

I have to echo what Dave said here, I got clever once and thought that a joint would help me ride through a hit, turned into arguably the worst experience of my life.

Yours don't really sound like CH, mainly because you say they happen on both sides of your head, CH is exclusively unilateral. I hope that you do find a cure, CH or no CH, living with pain is not fun.

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

Get a proper diagnosis from a competent Neurologist.
Until then you are grasping at straws!
Don't sound like CH to me tho.

We all are!!! Tired of this that is. No doctor mind you but it doesn't sound like CH to me either. I can't stand going to doctors, first off I always feel like a whiney four year old saying I have an owie in my head. And like you hospitals scare me cuz well...people die there!!!!!

That being said the unknown scares me more then anything. Attack this damned thing head on, get your fanny to a doc, figure out what is the pain mechanism and kick it's ass. Wishing you the strength of spirit to get through it.

I have appointment to see Nuerologist tomorrow morning and im freaked right out. Lately my headaches have been happening alot more often then usual and they are alot more intense. Marcus, I'm more concerned about your level of anxiety than I am with the headaches. You are just at the starting line for what will take several weeks/months of work with a good doc to find out what is the source of your headache. This process will take time, require patience--the triggers for more anxiety.

I hope that, having had some experience with street drugs, that you have contacts with someone who can help you understand and control the anxiety. If it gets "wild", anxiety will get in the way of good judgment and good self-care. Fear of tumors and meds, etc. can lead to a paralysis of willpower and self-control.

If you don't have access to a good counselor then take a look at:   http://www.ouch-us.org/chgeneral/painvsuffering.htm

this process is not something im unfamiliar with, i have taken most of the drugs that past doctors have given me and they have little or no effect. I am hoping by doing this process over that i will find a solution to my problem.   I have had nothing but problems with diagnosing these headaches in the past. Ive seen numerous doctors and Specialists with no result.

Your frustration come through loud and clear, all of us have been/are there! It's incredibly frustrating to try drug after drug and get only partial or no relief at all. Like Bob said, it's not a quick trip to the doc for a band aid, you're at the beginning of what might be a long journey. Attitude is everything when dealing with chronic pain.

Lots of us have been down the road you're on, at age 47, with almost 30 years of CH, I'm still a relative newbie compared to many on this board. Being an episodic who has effective meds I have it really easy compared to many of the chronics who have little in the way of meds that work for them.

Get started on the journey to figuring out what ails you. Hang out with us and we'll do what we can to encourage, help and teach you some coping skills. Good luck to you brudder, the light is always on here.
