Persantine/Adenosine stress test.

I have to have a Persantine/Adenosine stress test later this week. It is a chemical version of the treadmill stress test. The handout says that it causes the blood pressure, heart rate, and dilation of coronary arteries like a treadmill test but is done for specific cases when certain results are needed. I guess they need certain results from me. Should I fear that the chemical dilation of coronary arteries might cause a CH? I am on the downward slope of a long cycle that has been going on since mid-October. Is this a no-no for me?

Hey, all -
From reading some recents posts (and different CH'ers,) it seems that a few of us started our cycles in mid-October. Has anyone else noticed?
Thanks,
Suziq

I noticed the mid-October connection, too. I wondered at first if maybe we all had common genes. More likely it is something common about our jeans.

Fall and Spring have always been a good time for episodics since the beginning of time. Us chronics usually get "high" cycles during those times.

I still say it has something to do with the barometer. My theory - my gray matter expands and constricts with the barometer raising and falling -- WELLLLL, it's about as good a theory as any.... I'm thinking of going to metrolgist school - I'm better at predicting the weather than the damn weatherman! If Granny says it's gonna rain - better take an umbrella regardless of what the channel 12 newsman says.... Wink

I'd make sure that whoever is administering the test is aware of your CH and that you may have the need to abort one.  Any cardiac test unit worth anything should have O2 on hand, just make sure a non-rebreather is accesible, and they know what you need it for.
Best of luck, let us know how you make out......

Thanks mcf69! I have a fresh tank of O2 loaded in the car with my Clustermasx. I am going to have a Zomig spray along too. If they aren't prepared for me I plan to be self-supplied.

I have discussed my CH with them already. Sometimes it takes people time though to put two and two together. I hope that when I tell them that nitroglycerin is a no-no that that will key them in!

NP Bill, better to go prepared, cause you never know what they're going to have on hand.  Good point about the nitro, you'll definately want to let them know about that too.

Had the test this afternoon. The part of the test with the drugs was four minutes long - long enough for me to have a CH reaction if one was going to happen. I was told that they were using mostly Adenosine and very little of the Persantine so they thought a reaction wasn't likely. (They said Persantine is known to trigger migraine.) They were right, I had no CH reaction. In fact, the only reaction I had was an intense feeling of being overwhelmed! Four minutes, or so, of feeling intensely overwhelmed. It was strange indeed Nothing did I feel that I was warned of as possibilities such as, chest pain, shortness of breath, etc., none of the cardiac stuff.
