Occipital nerve blockade

    * Injection of anesthetic agent and a small dose of steroid into the region of the greater occipital nerve (base of skull) can provide relief averaging 13 days
    * Can be performed in an outpatient setting with minimal discomfort for the patient
    * Comparable to getting Novocain at the dentist
    * More studies are necessary to establish this as a legitimate transitional treatment for cluster headache

You can see a reference to this at the following link:http://www.brightok.net/~mnjday/chtherapy.pdf
I don't have any personal experience with it.

There seem to be a few types of nerve injections that provide relief--a newer one that provides longer term relief is described in my post about a page back--Sympathetic Nerve Injection.

I did better with the supra-orbital and supra-trochlear nerve blocks than with the occipital nerve block.

Either way, it is only a temporary reprieve.

Well I tried it, the shot hurt and it didn't do a damb thing for me.  Hope it worked on the others who tried it. None of the preventitives I have tried have helped, if it wasn't for O2 I don't know what I would do. Well I would probably do the same thing I did before I found out what CH was, meaning I would sit and feel sorry for myself and thinking I was a puss for thinking a headache could hurt so bad. On to the next item on the list I guess.

supra-orbital and supra-trochlear nerve blocks

Brought him this to see if it was worth trying. Thanks for the tip

after I get out of this cycle I plan on trying kudzu on the next one this fall. I would like to be totaly detoxed when I try it. If that doesn't work I am going to try the OTHER alt. But to tell the truth I would suck on a dog turd if i thought it would help.
That will give me more time to watch the kudzu and shroom threads to see how the trials are going.

Hi Maffumatt.
Just though I would put in my 2 cents worth here. I recently had 2 have a few cavities filled (thanks to morphine for a severe lack of saliva). I read in a post to ask for a numbing agent (procaine, xylocaine etc.. without epinephrin) as it can act as a vasodilator. I also had them let me breathe pure o2 instead of the nitrous. Best dentist visit I have ever had and because of the lack of epinephrin the numbness wore off much quicker. Just chiming in! Hope you have great days & nights ahead. Joe
