Plazticsoul
Glad to see that you have found something that works.  CH is a lot of trial and error because we are all different.  Congratulations.

Sharing your experiences can be helpful to others.

I take xanax for anxiety.  I have not had any ch since that day.  I don't know if it was coincidence or a miricle.  Either way they have stopped for now.  I want to quit taking the xanax so I will see what will happen sometime soon in the next few months.

Just an observation, I didn't see that you tried Verapamil* and Lithium, both used to treat C/H and sometimes as a cocktail. Xanax is now available in a 1 mg extended release formulation and is not considered as a big deal like standard release Xanax. Abstaining from Xanax in either form can be a bitch, so be careful.

*Verapamil is also used to control blood pressure.

There are alternatives to standard western drugs. Clusterbusters.com

Good Luck,

I used to take Xanax and before I knew I had CH I would take anything I had in the medicine cabinet and it didn't work for me. I am glad it does something for you. About your blood pressure, I was told on more than one occasion that if you start taking blood pressure medicine you will have to continue it later on. I am not a doctor and the people who told me that are not either. But maybe there was some truth to it. Best wishes!

Hello Plazticsoul,

Glad you finally found something that works! Hope it will give you the break that you need!

I don't have much to add to what you've already been told- just a word of caution about mixing alcohol with drugs. I know i'm not saying something new to you but even though alcohol doesn't trigger you it doen't mean it's helping you either- at least that's my experience with it. Plz, don't take this the wrong way, it's that being 22 and chronic myself i think i can somewhat relate to what you're going through. Plz feel free to PM me if you feel like talking.

As for the high BP, there's a thread on the Medications board about Atacand, it might worth a look.

PFDAN to all,
Perry.

I took 2mg in afternoon and 2mg in pm at bedtime.  No ha.  Last couple of months I have been through cognitive behavior therapy and have been having little to none anxiety attachs.  Thus the need for no xanax.  Right!  All I know is I am getting hit over and over.  Maybe it was the xanax doing it.?  I would try verapamil, lithium, oxygen, etc before trying xanax for this since they are not addictive.   Good luck!

Good to hear that it is working for you.  If dependency is starting to be a problem, consider passionflower and scutellaria.  These herbs are effective stress busters (they contain benzo compounds that affect the GABA neurotransmitters like xananx, but do not have the same dependency issues. In fact, they have been shown to be useful in preventing dependency.

So maybe that's why my HAs have been so erratic for the last year or so?  Supposed to take .25 xanax morning and evening.  Have been halving them for several weeks (unless I felt the need for a whole one) and the frequency of HAs has seemed to increase . . . didn't correlate the two.

Yeah, I have been interested in the xanax/benzodiazepine angle.  There has been some research that benzos reduce pain transmission in the trigeminal nerve. I wrote something about it:

Plaztic, how has your blood pressure been since you first posted this thread?  you said it was high back at the start of the summer.
You still take the propranolol?  or just the zanax now?
