Triptan question

Hello everyone.
I just started taking Maxalt, and it actually works pretty well, however when it wears off, it seems like the headaches come back twice as bad, twice as often. I was wondering if anyone experiences triptan relief like I seem to. They work, but the CH seems to be much worse when it wears off. Is that common?

Many complain of the same thing. If it seems to be making things worse, i'd stop using it and look for a different abortive med.

I used Zomig for about 6 months.
First time I used it, it aborted the entire cycle...
and I went 4 weeks pain free.
Second time I used it,
It aborted for 24 hours.
About the 8th time i used it,
it aborted for only 4 hours, and I took another one.
for the rest of the time I would take one,
and within 6-12 hours I'd have another bad headche.
Medicine free, I get random hits too,
so I wasn't sure if it was jsut the pattern of the pain
or if the medicine affected it.
some days I can get 8 headaches in 18 hours...
other days I jsut get 4.... and I haven't had any meds
since April.
Keeping a journal helps track the episodes,
but after 2 years of journaling, I haven't got a good pattern yet. Last year, on rainy days, I was heading
for a padded room....this year, it's sunny days that make
me run and hide....so I don't know if any one thing
is a trigger....
Some think medicines affect the normal chemical swe produce, transforming the episodes.... can't really say until they study it more....

Sounds a bit like rebounds, to me. Have you tried Oxygen as an abortive? Works extremely well for many here.
I'm a Trex girl, myself, and (so far) no problems with rebounds. No telling what might happen during the next cycle, though.
Seriously ... check out O2.

I had almost the smae problem with the Relpax pills... I would take one, it would take about an hour to work, so my HA would be gone, but as soon as the pill kicked in I would get another HA....
I still use the O2 as the First Choice as an abortive, but If it does not work after about 15 minutes, I reach for the TREX inj... I take about 1/3 of the Stat Dose vial.. I keep them broke down in Diabetic Sryinges... Using only 1/3 of the shot at a time, I do not get the usual hangover and/or crappy feeling....
Ask your Dr about trying a different abortive if you have a bad reaction to one.... Thats what I told mine, there was no way that I coulod do the Relpax....

My doc just today started me on Frova, which is an apparantly new triptan. Anyone have any experience with this? I personally get some slight relief from Imatrex shots, if the attack is a slight one and I get on it really early. The doc is trying to stop the night attacks with the Frova.

Phydeaux alot of us here in the UK have recently been trying Frova as a preventative particularly for night time hits.
We've been using it in two ways, one as an abortive while using o2 at the same time since Frova takes longer to kick in. (people have found chewing them and taking them with fizzy coke helps them to work quicker) and two, taking them an hour or so before bed.
I tried it myself for a week with most definite success, PF every night however.. and there is always a however it seems!.. I did pay for it during the day time, over the course of the week my daytime hits did most definitely increase in intensity and also I was still getting the same number of hits in the day that I would have had in 24 hours.
So my choice now is to use it a couple of nights a week to get some sleep or to use it to try and guarantee hit free days if I have something special going on. I'll be using it for holidays etc too!! I have an aversion to using triptans on a daily basis but for anyone else the choice is yours!

OUCH UK have been in talks with mennarini the makers of frova and they are very interested in paying for a trial with PG overseeing it so hopefully that will be coming off soon. I'll keep you all posted as always

Be that as it may, I have done much reading which supports a view that VERY high levels of CERTAIN triptans over a LONG period MAY contribute to heart issues.
But I ain't there yet, that's fer sure.

THAT is not the message we are slamming this idiot troll for. He is a (sadly) all too frequent visitor here who knows less about CH than my beagle and is only looking for an opportunity to grab a fast buck.

Oh no, believe me LeLimey, I understand board trolls only too well. I run a forum myself (for a game, not CH related) and get plenty of that type of sub-human. On my forum though, I am the admin, therefore can ban IP's and other such goodies. Makes life a little more fun sometimes....heh heh heh...

OK, I have another Q. I'm noticing that since I started taking the Frova (once in the eve)that my eyesight is MUCH worse. I do normally wear glasses, but I used to be able to properly focus on my PC monitor without them. Now, even with the glasses it's a bit fuzzy. Anyone ever have this happen?
