At the onset of a cluster episode of "Head Pain' I have found that a good dose of caffine, ie... coffee, anacin, excedrin shortens the duration significantly and begins to reduce the epidode within five minuets.

         - Hope this helps some of you!

Hello and welcome Smiley
Alot of people here have found caffeine helps, red bull and coffee being the two top favourites I think!
Watch it with the excedrin and any other pain killers as they actually don't do a thing for CH but can cause the nasty side effect of drug-induced rebound headaches which are very insidious as using more and more drugs to gets rid of them just exacerbates the problem.
There are alot of recommended meds for CH if you read here or you can post and we'll all help you as much as we can.
What meds if anything other than caffeine are you currently using.
Take care
PFDANs

Hi Rocketone...

Nice to meet you, sorry its under these conditions...

I agree with Helen 100%....

The Caffine I think is what keeps the BEAST at bay during the day for me when I am in cycle...(Mt.Dew)

Just watch using the Pain Reliever, weather they be OTC or Script... not to good for CH....

Wishing You PFDAN's

God Bless

Would the owner of the propane torch, egg beater, pipe expander and vise grips please claim these items. They're lodged in my head and I need the space. (burnt-toast)

I have suffered CH since I was a pre-teen and I am now in my 40's.  It was not until recently that I discovered that they were CH since before everyone thought they were just migraines although many of the symptoms were different.  My mother also suffers from the beast.

Where I am from we drink espresso cofee and since I was a kid at the oncet of an episode my mother would give me a cup of espresso with two aspirins.  Before I discover oxygen I would use two aspirins, two tylenol chased with a cup of espresso.  And yes I brew espresso at 3:00am to cure me.  I have been drinking this stuff so long I actualy don't loose any sleep.

I have another friend that it starting to look as if he suffers from CH.  Before either one of us new it was CH he was visiting me when a CH episode started and so I brew a cup of espresso and he drank it.  He was so relief afterward that it is now part of his regimen every time a CH episode starts.

Thanks so much for the tip!  I read this post several days ago, looking for ANYTHING besides Imitrex injections for some relief.  I've switched jobs and won't have insurance for a few months, so Imitrex is unavailable to me for a while.  For the past few days, I've downed a Starbucks Double Shot at the onset of a CH, and have been headache free!  I haven't even woken up in the middle of the night!  Thanks so much!
