Do Anything to Induce Heavy Breathing

Do Anything to Induce Heavy Breathing ... it has been 100% foolproof effective in aborting my CH attacks. Climbing stairs (30 flights this afternoon), running (about a mile), anything that makes you sweat and breathe hard, I mean heavy heavy breathing.
I used to use imitrex as the 'silver bullet" and once i got my hands on it, I swore i would never go all the way through another attack. Well, that stuff ran out and i couldn't get anymore where I am, and O2 is not readily available and so i did have to wait some out, and some 9s and a few 10s here and there to boot. Then I starting running, whenever i felt the slightest hint, or even once in bloom (3am wake up calls)...just GO. Please try this, if you are anything like me, the devil goes away ! He don't like lots of O2 in the lungs !

i've been playing with holding my nose and only breathing by mouth. It actually seems to help. Kinda like when your breathing heavy, your mouth does most the work.

yes, I used to put my thumb over my right nostril, I am a right sider, and it would help sometimes,,,,, i just run now, it has aborted many attacks. But you have to keep running through the pain for about 10 minutes and really get the heart rate going, get the lungs working hard. If you are athletically inclined, pls try it, it works for me.

I am glad this works for you. It has been brought up in the past, but unfortunately, for some, heavy excersize is actually a trigger.

There was a guy some time back who aborted by hyperventillating. No exercise, just hyperventillated until he felt dizzy. End of attack!

When i dont have any O2 or trex with me and i get hit, i cant help but breathe quite hard. In fact, i kind of hyper-ventilate, i have to be mindful to slow my breathing. For some reason i can suck pure O2 at 15lpm and be completely fine. Or, when i breathe very heavy, i get really lightheaded and my lips tingle. Its weird.
The heavy breathing does seem to help. The breathing heavy has not been a trigger for me, but if excersizing my body temp goes up, and that is a trigger for me. Maybe i should try now that we are getting cooler temps......

Might work for you but bad advice for some.
Even shallow breaths send me up the wall when I'm being attacked.

You would think this would work for a lot of people if 02 works for them but, hell, I used to try to do it to a point I'd pass out and it never helped at all. (Never could pass out either, no matter how hard I tried)
I remember being in an ER once time and the nurse tried to force me to lay down on a cart and wait....then ordered me to relax and take slow breaths.... 
She didn't like me after I replied. (come to think of it, a lot of people don't like me when I reply LOL)

I suggest holding your breath for 4-5 minutes.

All got good points but Like don it freakn hurts to breath, Finially got to try 02 and was big help. Remember with exersize you are also increasing blood flow and if I am not mistaken the pain centers around a constricted vessel in the brain? and like any other thing constricted it may be a bad idea to apply greater pressure to it. With 02 it increases oxygen without increasing flow. I am not a Doc but to me it just doesnt seem to be a good idea. I mean for some it may work but I wont try. Thanks for the advise and dont stop we are here to help and all the help is needed, and support.

I don't think breathing heavy will affect my attack. I used to hyperventilate during a major attack (before Imitrex injections) but all it did was make things worse. I admit that I haven't did excerises during an attack. All I can do is hold my eye and wish for death the end.

Nyet, Nyet, Nyet.
It's expanded vessels that need constricting, ergo: vasoconstricters. Expanded vessels press against nerves, which hurts, except that it's ALL in your head.
