Stopping and Starting Lithium
Jun 2nd, 2008 at 11:28pm

I posted about trying the shroom treatment so I had to stop Lithium and start again.  well now I stopped again due to getting severe nausea for a day straight.

what happened is I got very sick 2 nights ago, threw up constantly for about a day, so I stopped taking my Lithium again.  I got a pretty bad cluster today, first in a week, in my 6th week of my cycle, took some oxygen and it went away.

I'm flying to a wedding on Thursday, not sure whether I should start taking Lithium again or not?  I already stopped it for 5 days, then started for 6 days, now I've been off it for 2.  any help from someone that has had experience with this or knows someone who has I would greatly appreciate, I'm planning on calling my doctor tmw but they are hard to get a hold of.  thanks.

Scott

I think the person who should advise you on what to do next  HAS to be your doctor.  Lithium is a pretty heavy duty med -  only your md can help determine the best course of action.

Good luck to you- hang in there and be very persistent tommorrow in your calls to the md

Lithium generally takes 10-14 days for me to have any beneficial effect. For a Thursday wedding I think I'd try and talk my doc into letting you start the lithium, but also add a prednisone taper to cover you while you're at the wedding and such. As a side note I've been fortunate and never had the nausea from the lithium. Good luck!

Scott, this is NOT a drug to treat like aspirin!

It's effective but must be used with knowledge and care. Really need to work with your doc on dosing and to learn how to use it to your benefit.

I'll get nausea if I take it on an empty stomach.  Just make sure you eat something prior to taking it.  That may help
