Water treatment improved?
Jun 5th, 2008 at 10:55pm

This is a little something I picked up from the Aussie CH board from an Aussie bloke working in Saint Petersburg Russia.
Its an experience he had while in hospital over there; while I’m not advocating we all rush of the emergency to get fitted out with a drip I thought if worthy of discussion and so with his permission here’s a copy of his post;
Quote
Hi All.
I've just had a rather unpleasant week lying on my back in a Russian hospital- to be avoided if at all possible- however, some good did come out of it. My attacks have returned to their usual chronic frequency in the last couple of months, and as it was an unexpected stay in hospital, I only had my usual two Imigran tabs and a few painkillers on me. The hospital pharmacy didn't stock them, so I was concerned to say the least come attack time, 10.30 in the morning.
Now comes the good bit.
As most of us know, drinking bucket loads of water can help decrease CH severity, although not eliminate them.
So, I'm expecting my attack as usual- nothing. No shadow, nothing. Hmmm, I thought, unusual, see what happenens at 18.30. Again, nothing. Next day, 10.30, nothing.
What could it be? Then the penny dropped, I'd been on glucose and saline drips for two days; i.e. the water treatment on steroids. I didn't have an attack the whole week.
So next time you're on cycle, get yourself to a clinic and ask to be put on a drip and see if it helps- i'm REALLY curious about this now.

Cheers
Barry

That's interesting, Barry.  If it was not coincidence, is intravenous hydration more efficient in some way than simply drinking a lot of water (with electrolytes, obviously)?

I would be worthwhile to hear speculations why this might have occurred--and also worthwhile to hear whether others have had similar experiences.

Can't say that I'll be itching to take my water intravenously--although if it works, it might be less spendy and less unpleasant than a bag of histamines, or a DHE drip.   Tongue

Best wishes,

George

My thoughts exactly George & that’s why I posted it, it may be that this has happened before but no’ one has seen the significance of it.

As I said before I don’t think we should be popping of to the ER asking for a little drip feed, I’m sure the men in the white coats would be around very quickly. Cheesy

Cheers
