I'm curious. I've always lived in the west, grew up in the Southwest. But after 6 years of Theatre they beat any trace of accent out of me unless I was supposed to have one. Wink

Neutral You`re not Northern, Southern, or Western, you`re just plain -American-. Your national identity is more important than your local identity, because you don`t really have a local identity. You might be from the region in that map, which is defined by this kind of accent, but you could easily not be. Or maybe you just moved around a lot growing up.

Chalk up another neutral. Makes sense. People frequently have trouble telling where I am from because I have lived all over the place - Kansas, Illinois, Texas, Louisiana, Greenland, Washington State, Korea, Japan, Missouri and Oklahoma with temporary duty and training assignments in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Washington State, Georgia, South Carolina, Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, New Jersey, Arkansas, Texas and the Philippines as well as short excursions into or through most of the US states, Canada and Mexico.

Neutral as well.

I grew up in the area below, but have lived in the west for better than thirty-five years. I live in an area that's basically urban, though, and--although there's something of a regional Idahodian accent--you see it more in the rural areas. So I never picked it up.
