How high a dose can I go with Verapamil?
Jul 30th, 2008 at 11:52pm

Tried the old standby of verapamil, up to 720 a day but no relief.

Suffering terribly right now, Imitrex is not working either as an abortive.

Help, this is a 10 +++++ and in the past by the time I hit 720 mg the CH would be gone, but not this time.

Consult with your Doctor about the verap.....do you have O2 as an abortive?

I've heard of doses going as high as 1200mg per day.

Of course you should check how low your pulse drops. With high doses regular ECG-checks are also a good idea. I didn't do very well with Verapamil personally, I got brachycardia at a dose of 480mg per day.

Assuming you have been on the current dose for several weeks, it is time to discuss options with your doc:

Here is a link to read and print and take to your doctor.  It describes preventive, transitional, abortive and surgical treatments for CH. Written by one of the better headache docs in the U.S.  (2002)
