Delta looks like we're in for some rain.....
Sep 11th, 2008 at 12:28pm

Just checked the weather forcast for IKE and looks like we're getting a tropical storm thru our part of the woods. Better tie everything down... winds look like they're gonna be kinda bad. At least that's what they were saying a little while ago.

At least it's missing NO this time.  But you guys along the Texas coast -- get OUT.... looks like this one's gonna be worse than the last one.

Yep Barb, you are right

Winds already being felt here in LA; this one scares me just as much.

Worried about coastal flooding in lower parts of Parishes here (parish=county)

Things still not back to normal; I mean really - I got ALL EXCITED because the garbage was finally picked up today. The stench around here is getting to be a little unbearable once you step outside.

So, the media fails to remember Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes that were very hard hit; some people still with no power here; was hoping for schools to re-open on Monday, but think Ike will have the final say so on that situation.

Already have mandatory evacuations for very low lying areas.

Just time to take deep breaths here and pray for the best.

My poor brother driven from his home has yet to return; they had their vehicle broken into while housed at a hotel in Texas; can't come home yet; now Ike; and they're in Austin Tx, so think they need to move out from there as well.

ugh.......................storm season at it's worse

thanks for all the well wishes; and keep them coming

as for Ike - time to get ready

Makes me think again about our concern that we're having cold weather here. You people need a break!

Lots of luck and don't forget to make some of your own as well.

Gee Edna, dontcha know there ain't nothing to LA but New Orleans?  And if I remember correctly, it wasn't too far after katrina that a far more powerful hurricane hit the southwest, "Hurricane Rita was the fourth-most intense Atlantic hurricane ".  Didn't hear too much about those people either?  Guess self-reliance and grit aren't very newsworthy.

Hope to hell Jean (houston Jean) gets the hell out of dodge.  Remember when they thought Rita was going to hit Houston, so she went to her camp.  Then the damned thing went right straight through there.

Buckle down Edna.  Ike is playing cat and mouse right now.  He's changed track so many times, it's not even funny.

I wish this sh!t would get over with.  Talked to Jimbo a few minutes ago and he was going to pick up the Excursion, so he could have it if he had to pick up patients at the airport.  He's on standby AGAIN (never really stood down) for med evacs.

Barb,
I'm sure as hell hoping Ike stalls, fades, goes anywhere but *here/there*.  Flooding is going to be a major problem if we get more rain.  We've already had some major roadways go under water.

Talked to cousins, and aunts in the Houston area yesterday. Houston is still up in the air about leaving. Some are under "mandatory" evacuation and are getting out. Some aren't and are still getting out. A couple were staying.

This morning I heard on the news that they're saying, "If you stay in Galveston - you'll die!" That's pretty strong, but they're expecting Ike to be about a Cat 4 when it hits tonight or in the morning.

I'm ready for this mess to be over. Edna you take care and stay dry. Ya'll have had enough. Jimbo needs rest and we all need some dry weather for a while.

Howling pretty good here.  Trees swaying constantly. You can hear the gusts coming through them from a distance and we're just on the edge of this thing.  Amazing.

Take care Edna and all in its path.

Yesterday was the peak of the season.

Rosybabe is in Houston (but she may be in Mexico).  Not sure where Den and Georgia live (think they are further south).  Anybody heard from Jean (Houston Jean).

Glad that it's the mid-point of the season, Steve.  Hopefully, this sh!t will die down some and give everybody a breather.

Jimbo's going into the third week of hurricane *duty* and this is getting old.

He is happy we are not there right now but I am worry sick for him!  Cry...I really hope Ike be nice with us and nothing terrible happens but only God knows.....my zip code is 77075 so we were not ordered to evacuate but just 10 miles down are evacuating...please say a prayer for all people in Houston.

I'm  here in Houston. It's starting to blow a little but the sun is still shining temporarily. I'm going to take a little motorcycle ride and see what the neighbors are up to.

Gee, Ike is one heck of a big hurricane.  Wow!!!

Just read this on CNN.com:

September 12th, 2008
Coast Guard rescuing people on Texas peninsula
Posted: 11:31 AM ET

KATY, Texas (CNN) — The U.S. Coast Guard on Friday morning began helicopter rescues of residents on Bolivar Peninsula, a narrow stretch of land that separates the Gulf of Mexico from Galveston Bay.

The Coast Guard said it started an airlift of “22 to 50 people” — and their pets — from their cars and homes to High Island, Texas, at the base of the peninsula, as the wind and rain from Hurricane Ike slapped the Texas coast.

There had been warnings for residents to evacuate beforehand and Chief Petty Officer Michael O’Berry, interviewed by CNN, was asked why they didn’t get out in time. He told CNN he believes these residents “didn’t understand, I guess, the strength of the storm. As it came about, they realized it’s a lot stronger than they may have anticipated.”

It ticks me off when people don't evacuate and then put other lives in danger by having to rescue them.

Anyway, here's a link to some live coverage if anyone is interested:

I just checked in with the latest weather forcast and they've just downgraded it to a Cat2 (that's right now - who knows an hour from now).

You guys in Houston - take cover and I don't know what else to tell you. Just talked to my nephew down there. They're out around Katy and are riding it out. Sounded like they think everything is going to be fine (don't want to know what I had to say to them! - they've got two of my GREAT nephews with them!!!!)

Anyhow, THIS is one I'm really worried about. Right now, it's a little windy here, but we haven't been hit with the rain yet.

Rosy, my prayers are with your hubby and I'm glad you're safe and sound.

Now Jean CHECK in!!!

Ok, here's the deal folks -- after this damn thing hits and the winds die down -- YOU GUYS CHECK IN as soon as you can.... We're all gonna worry till you do. I've got enough gray hair without having to worry about everyone UNDERSTAND!!!!

How are all of you along the Gulf Coast doing so far?

I saw some pics of serious flooding in Slidell, too.

Please check in when you have a chance.  We are worried about you.

Northern shore of Lake Pontchartrain, Mandeville.

You can see some folks along the shoreline have, or are in the process of elevating their homes.   Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Started a new school in Slidell.  Just getting out of the ground and I suspect we might get a change order to elevate the finish floor elevation.  As designed it is 10' above sea level.

The new reality.

Stay safe people.

Rosy....so good to hear from you again.  I've missed you!  I hope your husband is staying safe!!  Let us know how he is the next time you talk to him, please.

I am amazed by how far reaching Ike is.  Seems he is making a mess of the whole Gulf Coast and he hasn't even reached land yet.

Please people.....keep in touch with us and stay safe.  We want to be sure you are all okay.

Good Morning guys!! It has been a very long night but I was able to talk to my husband through the whole thing and he just went outside to check and we had some roof damage, shingles out and a roof leak in the garage.
He still does not know if all those shingles are ours or someone elses since the house is in a corner we get a lot of debris. The fence we shared with the neighbor behind is gone but it was already in pretty bad shape anyway (neighbor did not want to pay half for the repairs)..no power yet and the rain is falling hard...the ditches are full but my house is dry but the garage area is getting wet because of the leak. Hubby can't get to the roof until the wind and rain slows down a bit to cover it with something...
My neighbor across the street got some severe damage because he had two tall and thin trees in front of his yard and they snaped and are now on his roof..poor guys  Sad...
down the street there is water on the road, he can't see much yet...
I will keep posting whatever he can tell me...
Brennan's is gone, destroyed by fire, Chase tower had lot of damage, all the windows on one side are gone...
water in the courthouse in galveston 7 ft under water...
guys keep praying please...flooding will be a problem now..

                                           Cry Rosy.

Rosy,
Glad your husband is *okay*.  I know it's so hard when you're apart at a time like this, but I'm sure that hubby is happy that you and Mirelle are safe and sound.  We've got wind, but nothing else at this point, although my weather alarm has already gone off once this morning.

We're trying to get my daughter moved this morning, so we're hoping that the rain stays away just a bit longer!
