Anyone know what this is?
Sep 21st, 2008 at 8:21pm

Does anyone know what this is or get it themself?
Luckily, not having cluster headaches right now.  But I am getting this new type of headache never gotten before (20 yrs. episodic cluster headache).  It is befuddling to me--like a strange new visitor in the night!  Anyway, here is what the headache is--it either wakes me from sleep or hits me in the morning right after I stand up or sometimes like if I wake up at night for some reason and stand up the second I am standing upright it hits.  It hits at pretty much maximum intensity which is somewhat startling.  The headache is on both sides, starts in the front of my forehead, sometimes goes into a circle around my head.  It is like a heartbeat in  my head and every time the heart beats it feels like my head is going to explode.  Pain level 7 or 8.   If I move my head the pain gets way intensified.  It lasts for about an hour if I drink coffee.  What is it?

Might be worth seeing a doctor about.  You can never be too careful!

Take care,

yes i had something very similar and i got alot better after i was diagnosed with sleep apnea. i got a cpap machine and voila, i wish the ch attacks were solved that easy.
anyway you might look into a sleep study with your doctor.

The pain you are discribing sounds like a migraine,  I get migraines occasionally and the pain is different than ch.  I can say that the pain level has never hit 7 or 8 though when compaired to a ch, everyones pain tolerance is different so that really doesn't mean anything, if imitrex works for this pain it could be a migraine but I would see a doctor to be safe.  Good luck and sorry you have a new pain.  Phil

Any head pain that is not "normal" for you should be checked out by a Headache Doc.

A new, very young girl at work get headaches and described all the those symptoms, the pain level and duration were even the same.  I listened but don't know so gave advice about seeing a headache doc too and told her where to go but she's no insurance.  Said she also has had problems with high blood pressure pretty bad but don't know if it's related.  They come and go, didn't happen today when I asked her about them.  I was hoping they wouldn't get worse.
The symptoms should be identifiable to a headache doc.

I gotta agree with the others here, when the pain changes, SEE YOUR DOC. It does sound like a high bloodpressure migrain, but also resembles sleep apnea HA. Why fool around? Get it checked out. Good luck.   Tuck

I don't have much knowledge about sleep apnea, but I have read that after being prone for a time, standing can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, resulting in fainting, dizziness, or, in your case, possibly headache.

Get to your doctor and get your blood pressure checked to see if it's higher than it should be.

It could be CH related, Migraine related, but my feelings are that the headaches might be somehow connected with your blood presure.

Just my two cents.

Sandy

Hey you all,

Thank you, I feel like I got good information.  I agree the HA is like a migraine, well it follows all the description except doesn't last long enough and seems to hit at pretty much maximum intensity.  So maybe it does have something to do with high blood pressure--last time I had it checked it was normal but that was like 1 year ago.  Maybe it went up from stress or something.  I will definitely try to get it checked out.  I appreciate you all giving me feedback--people are knowledgeable on here--especially about headaches so I trust to get a lot of good insights, I know many hear have multiple headaches disorders, so I figured I would ask.   So thank you all very much.

P.S.  Brew and Potter--are you guys feeling Irish today--the sarcasm is delightful--  A booger and a brain cloud thanks a bundle!

Mine was only designed to be mildly light-hearted, not sarcastic.

And I've never heard that phrase before - "feeling Irish." I was able to glean the meaning from the context, but that was a new one on me.

Brew,

One of my friends says that to me--"Well aren't you feeling Irish today?"  when I am making snappy comebacks.  My comment was meant to be light-hearted too--well...maybe a little sarcastic, in a good way!

Potter,

For some reason I couldn't download the audio, but it seems is that a Merle Haggard song cause I pulled that up somewhere else.  Yeah...that song about sums it up...can that be my theme song..."My brain is cloudy and my soul is upside down."  I love it!

Hey Potter,

For some reason my computer couldn't format the audio on that link, but I did find the song--it was the Bob Wills one that I found--I don't know why I thought it was Merle Haggard.  That is an obscure old tune--but I like it--I googled it and saw some fat dudes playing it--it sounds pretty good and sounds like some guy got dumped and now he's really hungover all the time--all in all a great love song I'd say!

Hmmm...either that or it could have be a statement about me not treating you and Brew right?  And that I will need both of your help someday?  Nah!  That would be reading way too much into it.  Either way, thanks for the tune my friend!

According to starlight he's some fat dude with a hangover.  Guess that pretty much sums it up.

Nah, I prefer to think "Roly Poly" with "Bubbles in My Beer" and "Warm Red Wine", cuz there's  a "Big Ball's In Cowtown". Wouldn't want to risk "Faded Love" with gal "Ida Red" . "You Will Miss Me When I'm Gone", he just wants to "Stay All Night..."
