Been painfree 4 years. Started again last week. So thankful for this site for infornming me years ago about oxygen treatment. It is literally a life saver. I just need to vent about another issue this condition has been and is for me. 20 years ago these headaches contributed to end of my marraige. This weekend, my girlfriend just couldnt handle it. We were away from home(oxygen tank) and headache got out of control. It scared her or thought I was trying to get away from her or something, not sure exactly, but she was acting so different today. As if she suddenly discovered I had some strange disease or something. And why a few aspirin wouldnt work. I admit I was not too easy to get along with for a few hours but I become almost totally debilitated. " Just leave me alone" is all I can think.....or say.

It sucks that it is back, Allen.

BUT, most of us have been where you are.

Maybe this letter will help explain things to your girl friend.

The important thing is to talk to her when you are NOT in the middle of a hit. Explain to her what you need her to do, and what not to do. If you need to get away, by yourself, as many of us do, explain that to her. If you don't want to be touched or even talked to, explain it. Let her know that there is not much she can do to help you, when you are deep in the battle with the beast. Tell her how nasty you can get, due to the pain, NOT her.

Communications is the key.

ALSO, ask her to read posts on this site. Ask her to join, and start asking questions on the supporters' section. That section is there just for HER! (Yes, us sufferers also sneak in there, too)

Good luck, and don't be afraid to vent here.

CAUTION: Do NOT smoke when using or around oxygen. Oxygen can permeate your clothing or bedding. Wait, before lighting cigarette or flame.

Keep fire extinguisher available, and charged.

Listen to Chuck my friend. Some good advice there...

My heart goes out to you. After she reads the letter, give her some time to adjust. And for God's sake, keep your O2 handy!!! I always have an e-tank and my emergency kit with me. It's better to interrupt your day for 15 minutes to abort that hit and move on with life.

The only thing I can add is, lose the fear. Either she can handle it or she can't. That isn't something that you have control over. Communicate openly... Tell her the truth... Make sure she knows what she can and shouldn't do... Tell her to come here and read... Join even...

So be safe, don't smoke while using O2. Kill the pain and not yourself.
