So what are YOU thankful for this year?

Me, I am thankful to be alive and loved. I am thankful for my family and that they are happy and healthy. I am thankful for my husbands job, even when we complain about it sometimes. I am thankful that my cluster headaches are giving me a nice long break. I am thankful for friends who accept me the way I am and are honest with me. I am very thankful to nature for providing such wonderful food, enjoyment and scenery.

I'm thankful the beast has temporarily lost my address and skipped a cycle....thankful for 2 beautiful "grown up" daughters who give me no grief, a wife who has put up with me for almost 29 years, and a CH family who continues to amaze me with their capacity to love and give.

And that only scratches the surface of everything I'm thankful for......

Great thread Mel!!!!

There are so many things to be thankful for.

I'm so very thankful that God saw fit to bring Phil into my life.  He is the best thing that ever happened to me.  I'm thankful that I have a job, so many here in Michigan and other places don't.  I'm thankful for my family even though they make me feel like a blacksheep most of the time.  I'm thankful for DJ and Steph and for this website.  I've met so many wonderful people here that I'm also thankful for.  I would probably be a total basketcase if I wouldn't have found you all.

I could go on and on.........

I am thankful for the friends I have made here on CH.com, and for DJ for giving us a home and hope.

I'm thankful that Steph has come into DJ's life to help complete him.

I am thankful for my country.  That we have the right to differ publicly about our political beliefs, and yet when all the shouting is done we are still all Americans.

I'm thankful for my son's safe return from Iraq and his upcoming marriage.

I'm thankful that my youngest son is also joining the Marine Corps in March.

I'm thankful for my wife who has stood with me (even when I haven't been fit to be around) for 32 yrs.  I love her more now than the day we married, and am constantly amazed that she still loves me.

I'm thankful for my relationship with God that gives me hope for the future as well as confidence in His care for the day.

Not all necessarily in that order, and there is so much more.  I have been blessed far beyond measure.

Jerry

I'm thankful as well that the beast has seen fit to leave me in peace again this fall.   Smiley

El and I will be shopping for Thanksgiving this Monday when  she gets out of school.  I intend to enjoy this one with her, because she may well not be here on Thanksgiving next year.

Odd to think that may happen...

Best,

George

Have to agree with everybody here. I love this place..especially when I read about long breaks from the beast.

I'm also thankful that my 7 year old neice's broken nose will be pretty well healed by Thursday. It wouldn't be the same without her. She's the best thing in our family in years.

I'm thankful for a many things, many.  In the whole scheme of things I think we are all blessed.

My 82 year old Mother will be here tomorrow.  She's flying in from Florida. I haven't had Thanksgiving with her for something like 18 years.  My son wants her to give his 5 month old baby his first bite of pumpkin pie.....just like she gave him 36 years ago.  I'm really thankful that she will be here this year.

Love and Happy Thanksgiving,
Jackie

Awww Jen,

Just had to go on and make me cry didn't you?

I'm thankful for all the dear friends all over the world I have met and/or talked to because of this site.

I'm thankful that DJ thought to start it.

I'm thankful for Steph who won his heart and made his dreams come true, and helps him keep the lights on here and at Moyamoya.

I'm thankful that my children are happy, healthy, and vibrant people who have alot to offer this new world they are inheriting.

I'm thankful that even though I'm not working yet, I have UE to live on for the moment, and that at least there is food on the table and roof over our heads.

Wow.  I got all teary just reading this.  I'm thankful so many of you are PF right now.  But my heart's pounding as so many things for which I'm thankful roll through my thoughts and so many images scroll by that make me smile....

I'm thankful for my Mom & Dad.  They didn't want to travel over the holidays, so they flew up here to see us last week.  My dad has Type I diabetes since 1940 and just turned 77.  He suffers so many complications, and can barely walk as a result of the rheumatoid arthritis - but we couldn't get down there.  He is a survivor and truly an inspiration.

I'm thankful for my amazing and brilliant husband.  We were high school sweethearts and I went to a Quaker college and he joined the army.  I'm thankful he looked me up 13 years after we last saw each other.  I'm very thankful he's more liberal than he was and I'm more conservative than I was!   Grin

I'm thankful for our wonderful cats.  They've given us far more than we could ever give them, I'm pretty sure.

I'm thankful for our amazing daughter.  Though she suffers the agony of mental illness, she is filled with light and love and has a beautiful soul.

I'm thankful for the Internet - for creating new ways of communicating and bringing people together that would never otherwise have met, and for people like DJ & Steph that help make that happen.

I'm so thankful we're still employed - despite the challenges in our industry and the incredible handicap with which Gary must contend.

...my best friend, who, sadly, was just diagnosed with MS.  I'm NOT thankful for that.

...new friends.  Smiley

...my health.

...the wonderful people in the community where we live.

...chocolate....

...lint rollers....

...that AMAZING maple tree down the road!

And so much more!   Smiley

Well the other day, without thinking about the Thanksgiving "I'm thankful for this...." stuff yet (too involved with schoolwork at the time!" I was thinking that for the first time I was thankful for my current state of health because I was doing a lot, more than most people around me were, and although I always want to do more that made me feel not so held back.  I felt able and under control so I think I am thankful for that feeling this year.  Smiley
and yeah, yeah you guys aren't too bad either. Smiley Especially my mom, who keeps me updated on all the news, good and bad, when I running around and can't get on the boards!

I'm so thankful for Kaleb's success in the last year.
He has quit school,
gone to job corps,
got his GED,
got his driver's license,
graduated his plaster trade,
moved to Nebraska,
started a job he loves.

Only thing that saddens me is that I wasn't right beside him for any of these...the apron strings have been cut!  He's doing SOOOO good, even with my LONG distance instruction and nit picking.

Also thankful for our quiet lives at home,
Mast

I'm Thankful for those who love me... they teach me tenderness.
I'm thankful for those who hate me... they teach me caution.

Thank you all for the great comments.  Many of you I have not had the chance to meet personally, but it feels like I have known you for years.  Thank you for welcoming me when I first came into your lives, DJ had lots of protective womens here, but I guess you all approved!  lol   Wink

I am thankful for so many things, honestly too many to list.

But most importantly, my families health and happiness.  I have two beautiful children and the most wonderful husband.  I am TRULY blessed in more ways than one.

You all (and my Moyamoya family too) are VERY important to our family.  For a very long time you supported DJ while he had CH, it is the least that I can do; to be here for all of you!!  (you're stuck with me now)  Wink

May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!  From our table to yours...CHEERS!!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for loved ones who are still with us.

I am thankful to have known loved ones who have passed.

I am thankful that the ones that have passed let us know they are still around by giving us little signs all the time. Right pegg? Wink

I am thankful that my little 9 year old Christopher doesn't think he is to old yet to give his Dad a hug and a kiss and an I love you no matter who is watching!

I am thankful that my brother had a birthday/halloween party 27 years ago, that's when I met Barb.

The list goes on and on.

Some interesting facts about Thanksgiving...

Has the celebration of Thanksgiving always been on the fourth Thursday in November? The answer is No. The date was changed to make a longer shopping period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. In 1863 President Lincoln set the date as the last Thursday in November. In 1939 it was moved to the second-to-last Thursday. Then in 1941 it was moved to the fourth Thursday.

There are many myths and historical oddities connected with Thanksgiving. Did you know the Mayflower was headed for Virginia but, oops, it ended up in Massachusetts?

And Indians were not invited to the celebration. A large group of men just showed up--the 17th-century version of party crashers. There were probably twice as many Indians as Pilgrims, so it seems unlikely the Pilgrims would have asked them to leave. Unfortunately, no one is sure why they came. Perhaps they heard the musket shots and were curious. But they did bring deer to eat. No popcorn, though. It wasn't even grown in New England then. But Indian corn was, and it was probably dried, pounded and cooked into a porridge. They probably ate waterfowl and turkeys, too, all living in the wild. Also available were fish, squash, cabbage, carrots, turnips, spinach and onions. No potatoes--they were still grown only in South America. Although cranberries were growing nearby, no records show they were cooked and eaten until the 1670s.

Forget the black clothes, too. Pilgrim women wore green, blue and purple. Men liked red linings in their cloaks. And they didn't have buckles on their shoes and hats. Buckles were not in style till years later. Next time you see a painting of the first Thanksgiving, look carefully. An iron cooking pot was really used; it may even be the one that survives in a museum. But there were no log cabins. They were built by Swedes who came 18 years later.
