Digital photo prints...
Dec 13th, 2008 at 6:57pm

Where do YOU order your digital prints from online?  I'm getting fed up with Winkflash and am shopping around for a place that's reasonably priced with good quality prints.

Thanks!

Can't help you there, don't do prints on line.  Most all the major photo hosting sites do some tyoe of printing though.

Walgreens.

But I only do our Christmas cards there.  I print off everything else at home.

Hey Mel, you can upload the files to walgreens and walmart, the prints will be ready for you so as to save a trip.

Walmarts prints suck, lol.  Sorry, I guess I'm a bit biased as I used to do photo printing for a small photo shop.  People just don't seem to care about quality anymore. Roll Eyes

Anyway, I've tried Walmart, Sony Imagestation (they closed down and I LOVED their work! Sad), Walgreens and now Winkflash and I'm getting frustrated.

Maybe I'm just too anal. Undecided

Awww, dang it Mich!  I checked them out and they don't do the normal photo prints.  They DO do greeting cards though, but they're twice the amount I normally pay. Sad

Maybe it's just better I give Winkflash the benefit of the doubt and go with them one last time.  If they screw up my order for a 3rd time, then that's IT! Tongue

I take my camera card to our local camera shop and sit at their machine where I can order as I like - crop - take out red eye - enlarge or whatever.  I'm there so darned often that they give me coffee whilst I'm sitting there printing off pics.  Because I shop there regularly, I get a decent discount and have my prints in an hour.

Frankly, I'm too dumb to figure out how you do any of that stuff on line.  Should have hooked myself up with a computer guru instead of a golf guy! LOL!

How far are you from a Ritz camera store?  Did you look into Photobucket or any of the other hosting sites?

I should have told you that my daughter orders all of hers through Snapfish and has always had good luck with them.

Carolyn, there is no place near here.

As for Photobucket, I think I might have ordered from them once.  I'll have to look in my saved email folder to see.

Carol- I'll check out Snapfish too.

Thanks!

I'm really, really picky on my prints so take this with a grain of salt. I don't know if you are a Costco member, but they blow the doors off of any other retail level printer I have ever seen. Nothing like Walmart, Walgreens, etc.

You can even go online and download the printer profiles for the exact machine in your location. These profiles are updated often and will allow you to color match what you see on the print vs. your monitor if you want to profile your monitor. They use state of the art equipment, train their technicians well and keep their chemicals fresh so the prints are never color shifted or muddy looking.

I have a good friend who is a fantastic wedding photographer who gets his printing done at Costco. Again, I'm particular and I used them a lot for small/medium sizes (up to 11x14) when I was actively selling prints.

If you want to really have some fun, grab a nice sharp file and try one of these:

I sold a lot 20”x30” prints that were stunning, and their customer service is great. I never tried them for 4x6 prints, but suspect that they will be good based on the all of big stuff they did for me.

I do my own prints at home. As long as I use top quality photo paper, photo ink cartridge, and accept the fact I can only go as large as 9 x 11, my prints are very good, for me anyways.

I have friends that cannot believe my prints are this good using my Canon SD1000 ELPH Camera and a Dell 924 Photo Printer.

I enjoy it more as a hobby than anything. Cool

You bet!

Printing at home can give fantastic results. The main down side is that most inks are dye based and won't last as long as a "wet process" print. They are based on organic materials that start breaking down very quickly.

Higher end inkjet printers can now use pigment based inks that will rival or even out live traditional photo processing. The ink is expensive.

Marc, I'm not a Costco member, only a Sams Club member, but I do know that Costco merchandise can be ordered online.  So for me, it'd be worth a try to see if I can do that with my pics!  I too am extremely picky about how my photos are printed.  Winkflash quality isn't all that bad, but I'd like something even better.  Especially for when I decide to put my portfolio together.  (not professional, but just something that'll be given to my grandchildren when I'm gone)

Barry, I used to do it myself, but I have so many printed that my wallet cannot keep up with ink and paper, lol.

Marc, I checked it out and Costco does not offer their photo printing for non-members, so I checked into Sams Club and they have it there.  I'm going to try them out and order 3 prints at different sizes to see how they turn out.

Thanks for the idea!

Smileymel

(p.s. I also got complimentary prints and they're 4x6's are only 8 cents each with home delivery Smiley)
