Push-Ups as an alternative therapy
Jan 12th, 2009 at 2:22pm

To begin let me disclose that this is my first post on CH.com so I apologize if I am not yet "in-tune" with the common verbage. I have just recently discovered that doing push-ups with the onset of an attack has about a 60% success rate. It will usually subdues the headache, but will eventually come back within 12 hours. I commonly use this technique at night when I get woken up by an attack. I do about 10 push-ups, sit, and take some deep breaths. Then push-ups again with the breathing until it goes away.

Just wanted to share this with everyone. I look forward to being part of the group.

Vigorous exercise has worked for many of us. Some run, or do push ups/sit ups - I used to peddle my bicycle like a madman with about a 90% success rate. I know one old guy who did squats until his legs burned  Wink

Since I discovered how well and how fast oxygen therapy works for me, I don't have to ride to abort anymore – I just suck on the O2 for a few minutes! O2 is nothing short of a miracle for me.

Other people have reported quite the opposite effect………they get hit more with exercise.

Any elevation in heart rate makes my beast go crazy.  Even walking up one flight of stairs will trigger me.  Cheesy
And on that note, I can't get my %$#@ GP to write me up the paperwork to get handicap tags; city parking isn't too bad, but at my university, I have to park about half a mile away from the building, and I'm DYING by the time I get to class.  Angry

Marc hits the paradox! Exercise use to be a remedy in the days before we had any of the current meds to abort attacks--and it's still worth a try.

But we also have research that activity which raises the body temp can trigger attacks for some people.

CH is not for folks who seek stability!

There's a lazy man's way of increasing the O2 levels in the system that doesn't involve any exertion beyond turning the knob on the Oxygen tank, holding the mask to the face and breathing deeply.

Did Bob just call me unstable?????

I used to go for a sprint when I felt an attack starting. Then I discovered oxygen. I'm not nearly in as good a shape, but it's a great deal easier! I can abort an attack in about 6-8 minutes using just oxygen.

Welcome to the board, hoping the beast goes easy on you.
