Crap? It works!

Funnily enough one thing that does not fail to end each particular hit is to "open my bowel" (actually "doing a crapper" sounds a lot better).

The pattern is like this, I wake up, I must not dally in bed (I get hit if I stay awake reading ) I have my cereals and fruit for breakfast, then I eventually get hit. Breakfast normally makes me want to visit the toilet, so there I go, do my thing, and after 2 or 3 minutes (sometimes even before I have finished washing my hands) the pain diminishes in intensity very quickly and I enjoy a few hours of a clear head.

I sometimes get hit again, so I visit the toilet and "make an effort"... actually the "effort" itself is sometimes painful, but if I manage to get a result then with high likelyhood my pain will be gone in no time at all.

I read somewher that there was some kind of link between migraines and bowel movement, is there no chance that a similar link exists for CH?

I have experienced this so many times (the last time about 20 minutes ago) that, for me at least, there is no doubt some kind of link must exist.

I´d like to know if you have experienced something similar.

Not a subject to discuss over dinner though

It turns out that the largest store of seratonin in the body is in the bowel. A hit always triggers my lower digestive system. Sometimes I get relief. Sometimes not. I never deminishes the big ones. -Dennis-

High kip hits still have the same effect on me today. I've wondered if it is the seretonin or just my body's response to pain. PF wishes, Jeannie

It did seem to help.

I have a standing RX for Reglan to take for migraines and was told it would probably help my vertigo too. I haven't filled it or tried it yet tho.

Early on, before I knew these were clusters, I did always find that succumbing to the nausea and vomiting would bring on the beginning of the end of the pain. As such, I got quite adept at heartily vomiting on queue, quietly, in pretty much any place I could find. (this went on to become quite useful in college actually). Then after about five years of that, it stopped working. But oddly, just this last cluster, the nausea has returned with the headaches a little, but sadly, the vomiting only brings on temporary relief. It's like the heaving stretches my cranial blood vessels more or maybe it redirects the blood for a little bit, but within a minute or two, the pain comes back.

It is funny to me that after 15 years of reading all i can about migraines and clusters and what not, I never recall coming across this Bowel Movement Connection. <stocks pantry with digestive biscuits>

I now these guys may not even have cluster (or not be aware they have cluster) In any case there seems to be a bunch of people out there that are experiencing something similar to what i am experiencing.

I am tempted to keep a log of my attacks and whether they were aborted by a visit to the toilet.

I hesitated to weigh in on this $hitty topic..(with apologies)...I always have a tremendous urge to have a hearty BM when getting a hit. It's never brought me any relief. Maybe the bodies attempt at getting whatever is hurting me outta my body??

And trust me on this, Chuck's story is worth a reprint! Good for a laugh when you need one! (Love you Chuckles)

I love this place.....ha haa haa.....there now follows a scientific discussion on the abortive techniques used by CH sufferers. First up is the 'Having a huge dump' method....or 'stalling by stooling'.

Seriously (!) though, I find that when out of cycle and I'm lucky enough to have a really, really bad hangover, a good session on the big white throne really diminishes any lingering headache and nausea.

I think I've found the subject for my next thesis. I wonder if I'll get funding?
