Waiting on a 10AM appt with the Beast, MD at 4pm
Sep 21st, 2009 at 10:05am

I just need to vent...

Im in the midst of a cycle these last 3 weeks, and have been having regular 10 am EYE GAUGINGS from the beast.  Right now, i'm in the midst of a building shadow and I know what is about to come in a few minutes.
A part of the regularity is nice, I can be inside and ready for it.  But waiting and knowing its coming is torture in itself.

I made a doctors appointment, and they couldn't see me for 10 days.  I sure hope they're nice to me this afternoon, cause I'm gonna be in a bad mood for sure. I dont want to wait these bad boys out any longer.... gotta go

Thanks for well wishing.... Had a massive headache with all the symptoms, pressure and running nose, tearing bloodshot eye and the pain that you all know too well.

Anyone else find they fall asleep once the pain starts to subside?  I feel these things take so much out of me I'm just exhausted when the torture stops... I just woke up from a solid 2 hour nap

It's like being in a 12 round boxing match and fully exhausted.  I had a lingering shadow/cluster scheme for 4 straight hours yesterday.  Gobble seeds about 10:30 and that knocked the beast away, but those seeds make you just as tired and I had two rugrats to deal with on top of it all.  It wasn't a pleasant Sunday, but I slept well thanks to the seeds Smiley  I still had a hit this morning at work.  Unfornutely I only had trex shots to abort which will probably screw my seed dose Sad.

When the PAIN starts, I FIGHT back!

Rivea Corymbosa seeds were my KO punch, now D3 is the front runner!

What seeds are you using to abort?

Caffeine doesn't seem to help me during a hit.  I'll down a cup or two as quickly as I can, but its almost worsened by the coffee.  Maybe I'll try the taurine next time....

I'm completely exhausted after a hit too. But strangely enough I can't sleep then. Really frustrating.  Angry

Thanks everyone for your help, I'm really in awe.  Maybe kindness is one of the signs of being a clusterhead, or just sharing such a pain is the reason everyone is so compassionate.  This site has changed my life.  Now I can deal with this beast instead of living without hope.

Just saw my MD regarding these cluster(f*@#ing) headaches.  He admitted to not knowing much about clusters, but he was the one to bring it up rather than me, which was nice.  He was also willing to educate himself further for my case, which was crucial.  However, he was only willing to give me migraine meds and let him know how they work (rizatriptan benzoate and eletriptan hydrobromide) before moving onto others and 02.

So things are looking up, at least for now.  And I want to thank each and everyone of you.

Keep us posted on how you're doing and if and how the meds work for you.

But I would ask your doc to reconsider prescribing O2. I definitely prefer O2 over any meds! It works faster than pills, has no side effects and is cheaper as well.

Good luck with it!

Sigh, you have to wait 10 days to see a doctor for what can be considered a critical condition (IMO anyway), and when you finally get there he doesn't know anything about your condition. So Typical.

My experience is that you gotta take this into your own hands as much as possible, and either order some RC seeds and try them as outlined on the clusterbusters site (I have to wonder if you're too far into the cycle for them to be effective though), or get an appointment with a neurologist ASAP, ideally a headache specialist who will prescribe you O2, imitrex injections, and one or more of the preventatives known to be effective for cluster, not migraine.

Or all of the above.

Before your appointment you order a high flo O2 regulator (25 LPM or higher) so that when you get your O2 with a ridiculous 8 LPM prescription you can promptly ignore it and jump right into high liter flow and get real relief.

You could also check into just getting welding O2 immediately and bypassing the ignorant MD gatekeepers for this.

Some links to info on this site that has been critical for my success in combatting the beast:

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

Luckily I live in Canada with national healthcare; the cost of pills is not the problem but I definately HATE DRUGS and would rather cure my hits with 02 than anything else.  The action time is a big factor, of course.  I assume pills are slower than injection/inhalation (or 02)?

I guess I should work on getting some tanks and a mask, huh?  Need to call that doctor back...

Sorry to see you here comrade,  I have only 3 bits of advice for you.....
1/   Get some O2
2/   Get some O2
3/   Get some O2

Have found it's the only foolproof way to really kick the motherf#@kers ass.

Wishing you PFDANS

Yeah me too actually - I never even consider taking any when not in cycle, but that kinda goes away for awhile when El Beasto comes to town.

I believe that to be a correct assumption.

A reasonable way to go IMO is to go with the hi flo non re-breather mask O2 for your first line abortive (forgot to mention the mask previously), and if it doesn't work, or you're caught somewhere without it, have the trex handy for your backup plan.

Back up plans are a good thing to have indeed when dealing with this, um, to paraphrase the Aussie, futhermuckerCheesy
